Appointments (updated November 2018)

Our patients will be aware that we have been working hard to improve our patient’s access to appointments. In the last year we have made several changes – and we thank you all for being supportive and understanding throughout these times.

We are open from 8.00am - 6.30pm, Monday - Friday.

Please call early in the morning if you have an urgent problem that needs to be seen on that same day. When you call earlier you are more likely to be given an appointment at a time that is convenient to you. Please call the practice on 0115 855 4200. The trained medical administrator will ask you the nature of your problem to help you get the support that you need.

You can also submit online requests via the above links. The online forms accessible here will ask you for relevant information. If you do not give us enough clinical information about your problems, then we are unlikely to be able to answer your questions and help you. Please DO NOT use the online forms for urgent queries, there can be up to a 48 hour turn around for a response.

Online Appointment Booking

There are also appointments available for you to book directly online. You will need a log on and password for this. 

You can register for access to SystmOnline at reception; you will need to have some photo ID to register.

You can then follow this link SystmOnline to enter you details to log on.

Please add nature of your problem to the appointment when booking as this will help you get the support that you need.

Outside of this time emergency care is provided by Derbyshire Health United via 111. 

The On Day Service

A new service aimed at those patients who feel they need a same day appointment is currently being piloted in Long Eaton and The Golden Brook Practice are taking part. It is staffed by local GP's and nurse practitioners.

If you feel you need a same day appointment, please contact the practice in the usual way and our team of friendly Medical Administrators will help guide you to the relevant healthcare professional.

On Day Service

 Extended Hours Access

Local GP practices are working together to offer patients better access to appointments in Long Eaton and Ilkeston through our Erewash Extended Hours Hubs - that means we are able offer appointments at a time which is most convenient for you either at Long Eaton Health Centre or Ilkeston Community Hospital.

You can now book appointments in the evenings and at weekends from Monday – Friday 6.30pm – 8.00pm and Saturday and Sunday mornings the service is also available on Bank Holidays.   

Appointments can be booked via reception in the usual way.

When you need to see a Nurse, Phlebotomist or Health Care Assistant

Routine appointments with our Practice Nurses, Phlebotomists and Health Care Assistants can be made directly by contacting our reception on 0115 855 4200.

Please do not call between 8.00-10.30 and 14.00-15.30 to arrange these appointments. Between these times our team are working hard to provide access for those patients in need of urgent care. 

Home Visits

We all enjoy looking after people through out the course of their lives. On some occasions their illness and circumstance mean that they can not attend the surgery. We are happy to visit people where there is a genuine need.

We reserve home visits exclusively for those who are unable to attend the surgery due to their medical condition. The doctor has every right to ask you to attend the surgery and not visit you if they do not feel that a visit is needed. In fact they may ask you to get a taxi, or ask for you to arrange a lift so that you can be seen. 

We have a team of ANPs (Advanced Nurse Practitioners) working in Long Eaton. The ANP team provides an excellent home visiting service. The ANPs are all fully trained in clinical history taking, clinical examination and diagnosis and are able to prescribe. We find that the ANPs are able to visit our unwell housebound patients promptly (they can often visit before the doctors have even finished their surgeries). This of course means that our housebound patients are afforded rapid assessment and treatment, often avoiding painful or unpleasant delays. The ANPs do feed back to the GPs, so that we remain fully aware of your medical conditions.

We are also supported by a terrific district nursing team who add further to this. 

To arrange a routine home visit please telephone the surgery before 11am.

We will only accept emergency requests for visits after this time.

Out of Hours GP cover

After 6.30pm and until 8am during the week and at weekends you can access a GP by telephoning the surgery or by phoning 111 directly. This is run by Derbyshire Health United and staffed by local GPs and nurses providing emergency cover. There are a number of pilots locally, run by local GPs offering appointments until 8pm and at weekends. 

Missed appointments 

If you turn up late for your appointment you may not be seen. It is unfair on anyone else waiting to be held up further. 

If you do not attend an appointment at the surgery, it will be recorded in your medical notes.

If you do not attend on three or more occasions, then you may be asked to leave the surgery.
